SOUTH AFRICA’S CANDIDATURE TO THE UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL (UNHRC)

REMARKS BY HE AMBASSADOR MOLEKANE ON THE OCCASION ON THE MANDELA DAY

AMERICAN CATHEDRAL IN PARIS

PARIS 17 JULY 2015

Good Morning,

Dumelang,

Bonjour,

Madame Judy Nicault the Director of the Friday Mission Lunch and all the respective members of the organising committee.

On behalf of the Government of South Africa, we are indeed humbly and appreciative for allowing us an opportunity to be part of your Friday mission lunch initiative for the needy and the underprivileged.

I am informed that this initiative has been in place for a number of years and it happens every Friday. Allow me to congratulate your organisation for the sterling work and most importantly for contributing to a greater humane course by ensuring that the less fortunate people have access to a decent meal.

On the 18 July, people across the globe celebrate the 67 minutes Mandela Day Campaign by volunteering their time and services for charity work.

The theme for 2015 is Food Security; Education; Shelter, Infrastructure; Service and Volunteerism which is attested through your hard work to make the world a better place for all.

In conclusion allow be to borrow the words of the President Mandela, “ There is nothing I fear more than waking up without a program that will help me bring a little happiness to those with no resources, those who are poor, illiterate and ridden with terminal disease”.

Once Again, many thanks to the American Cathedral and the Friday Mission Lunch for the remarkable efforts, may you continue with the good work.

Merci Beaucoup !!
